Casa Mediterraneo Kastelorizo

Located on a hill overlooking the harbor and the sunset, the (for now) six-suite hotel consists of three restored mansions, standing among others that are still in ruins.

Atmospheric scenery enhanced by the surrounding wild flora and its euphoric scents.

Each floor is a suite. And one is a reception area, a public area, and a gathering space.

Breakfast is served under the shady pergola which doubles as a bar later in the day. Dinner will be on the large “plateia” (square) with a village feel. A succession of terraces – among them one destined for Yoga – with blooming Mediterranean flora completes the venue.

The Hotel inspiration comes from the island’s culture and traditions, the materials, the textures, the colors, the light in all its forms.

Also, because of the geography and the history, references are found across the sea, in the Greek roots of (oh! so close) Asia Minor. Following tradition and local practices opened the way to sustainability that manifests itself through construction techniques, cross ventilation, shading, water preservation, as well as through the use of locally sourced raw materials.

The architectural and interior Hotel design concept aims to simplify and modernize but keep the true essence of the Kastellorizo style: local aesthetic treated in a more contemporary way, with a pure approach and clean lines. Hence, the palette: the burnt orange of the island’s sunset for the facades paired with the olive trees' silver green for doors and windows. As for the inside, it is bathed in a soft limestone tone obtained by combining local rocks with limewash, some warm woods and the traditional bold colors of the island. Floors are made of cement tiles in soft hues, or wood. Traditional ceramic tiles are used in the bathrooms featuring antic marble hammam sinks for washbasins, while complemented with sleek contemporary Italian fixtures.

In terms of decoration, an eclectic mix and match of old and new sets the tone. A creative dialogue between modern and traditional for furniture and lighting, reviving elements such as the vintage mid-century seats upholstered with a traditional hemp fabric used by local farmers to collect the fruit bounty. Diverse and simple artwork, like that which could be found in a family summer home, complete the picture. The purpose was to create an all Greek, relaxed, simple, yet sophisticated summer atmosphere.
